Where the pictures come from

Almost everything on this site is either mine or shown because it is what the page is about. This is the account of which is which. It is written for anyone who wants to know, and for me — so that when a picture has to be replaced I know what I am replacing.

Photographs of my own life

Childhood, school, university, the years abroad, the clinic: I took these or they were taken of me with my agreement. Where other people are recognisable in them, it is to my best knowledge with their consent. If you are in one of these pictures and would rather not be, a short message to ha.meilicke@gmail.com is enough — I will take it down, no explanation needed.

Book jackets

The covers in the reading lists are publishers’ artwork and remain the property of those publishers and their designers and illustrators. They are shown small, next to a note about the book, in the way a bookshelf or a review shows a cover. No claim is made to any of them.

Portraits

The portraits under “My intellectual heroes” are other people’s photographs. The rights belong to the photographers or their agencies, and for the living there is also the right to one’s own image. These are being worked through and replaced with pictures whose licence is clear; where that is not possible the portrait comes off and the name stands on its own. If you hold the rights to one of them and want it removed, write to me and it goes the same day.

The childhood page

The comic, the games and the two television series on Before the books are shown by their packaging and cover art, which belongs to the rights holders — among them Nintendo, Game Freak, Paws Inc. and 20th Television. They are there as a record of what a child in Heilbronn actually had, not as anything of my own.

Generated with an image model. No photographer and no painting stands behind them; they are illustrations, and are labelled as such here so that nobody mistakes them for either.

Typefaces

Cormorant Garamond by Christian Thalmann, Playfair Display by Claus Eggers Sørensen, and Fraunces by Phaedra Charles and Flavia Zimbardi. All three are published under the SIL Open Font License 1.1 and are served from this site rather than from anyone else’s server, so reading this page tells no third party that you were here.
